IR3535® is a repellent biocidal substance. It works in two different ways: one passive, in which it masks the odor of the victim (the human), and another active, in which it repels the insect, as they avoid entering areas with IR3535® vapors.

The exact biochemical mode of action of IR3535® on insects is not yet defined, but it is clear that IR3535® has a mechanism based on smell. As the active substance IR3535® is repellent (no scavenging action), it does not generate selection pressure, so it is not possible to develop resistance

IR3535® is approved as a repellent in Europe, as well as in the United States of America, being recommended by the World Health Organization, by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, by the Brazilian Ministry of Health and by the Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine of Portugal.
